Power Distribution Electrician

Rochester, NY

Summary:  Maintains the high voltage electrical distribution system (with system voltages at 480-34.5KV) to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all facilities and buildings. Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains components associated with the system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install and maintain the high voltage distribution system
  • Perform preventative maintenance on switches, power transformers, metal clad switchgear, protective relay systems, motor control centers, medium voltage control and excitation equipment, automatic transfer switches, and rotating equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems to ensure continual operation.
  • Ability to perform tests including but not limited to transformer insulation resistance, (transformer turns ration, high-current injection, fuse continuity, etc), protective relay testing, cable testing, etc.
  • Clean, inspect and operate the functional components of circuit breakers.

 Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED (min).
  • Associates degree in an electrical field, Armed Forces training, electrical apprenticeship, or equivalent field experience preferred.


  • General understanding of electrical standards and codes
  • Knowledge of electrical control systems
  • Knowledge of 3 phase power, protection, and control systems.
  • Basic PC skills
  • Must have valid driver’s license

Work Environment:

  • Industrial environment.
  • Occasionally working outside in all weather conditions from street level to roof tops.
  • Occasionally working inside in extreme conditions from basements to rooftops in high places.
  • Possibility of temperatures ranging from extreme cold to over 100 degrees.
